Dutch growers are at the forefront of finding alternative sources of heat for their greenhouses. This approach ensures we can minimise our use of fossil fuels, for example by using geothermal energy.
Another contribution to energy-efficient growing is the so-called CHP installation: a combined heat and power unit that supplies electricity, heat and CO2 after combustion of gas. The electricity is supplied to the external grid, and surplus heat is stored in a heat buffer.
